In October, School of Public Policy and Management, Tsinghua University (SPPM) was established, and Center for China Studies (CCS) started to officially operate under School of Public Policy and Management.
In January, Professor Hu Angang was selected for "Hundred Talents Program" of Tsinghua University.
In February, Region and Development: New Strategy for Western Development, which displayed the research achievement of Professor Hu and his team of ICCS, was published by China Planning Press.
In March, Professor Hu Angang won the 9th (2000) Sun Yefang Economic Science Paper Award.
In May, Professor Hu Angang went to Chinese University of Hong Kong for short-term academic visit.
In August, Professor Hu Angang attended the Symposium on Monopoly Industry Reform hosted by Wang Qishan, director of Economic Reconstructing Office in the State Council.
In April, Professor Hu Angang attended the Seminar concerning Rural Economic Structure and Support Strategy on Science & Technology hosted by Xu Guanhua, minister of Ministry of Science and Technology, and delivered a speech about the national agricultural challenge after China’s accession into WTO.
In April, Wang Yahua, doctoral candidate supervised by Professor Hu Angang, was rewarded as one of the Seventh Academic Rising Stars of Tsinghua University.
In June, Professor Hu Angang attended Symposium on Economic Situation Analysis hosted by Zhu Rongji, premier of the State Council.
In September, Professor Hu Angang attended Research Symposium on China Sustainable Development Forestry Strategy hosted by Wen Jiabao, vice premier of the State Council.
In April, Center for China Studies (CCS) published series special issues to cope with the SARS Crisis.
In May, Guo Yong, doctoral candidate supervised by Professor Hu Angang, was rewarded as one of the Eighth Academic Rising Stars of Tsinghua University.
In June, Professor Hu Angang attended the symposium of “Strengthening the Construction of Public Health and Promoting the Coordinated Development of Economy and Society” hosted by Wen Jiabao, premier of the State Council, and made a speech. The symposium was held at Zhongnanhai.
In October, Guo Yong, doctoral candidate supervised by Professor Hu Angang, won Special-grade Scholarship for Graduates of Tsinghua University.
In September, Professor Cui Zhiyuan was selected for "Hundred Talents Program" of Tsinghua University, and started to work at Center for China Studies (CCS).
In October, Wu Shunde Building, where School of Public Policy and Management of Tsinghua University is located, was completed, and Center for China Studies moved to the new building.
In October, Professor Hu Angang attended Economic Situation Symposium for economic experts and scholars hosted by Wen Jiabao, premier of the State Council, and made a speech on the macroeconomic regulation and control.
In December, Hu Angang attended the expert symposium of “Report on the Work of Beijing Municipal Government” hosted by Wang Qishan, mayor of Beijing.
In January, Professor Hu Angang served as the chief economist in “2004 China’s Annual Economic Report” of CCTV, and he jointly reviewed China’s economy in 2004 with officials from national ministries and commissions, famous scholars and entrepreneurs and predicted economic development trend of 2005. .
In January, Professor Hu Angang was appointed as member of Expert Committee of National Disaster Reduction Commission.
In March, Zhang Xin, MPA graduate student supervised by Professor Hu Angang, won the 1st National Award for Excellent Thesis for Master of Public Administration.
In May, Professor Hu Angang was selected as one of the 8th “Excellent Teachers of Graduate Courses of Tsinghua University”.
In July, Professor Hu Angang was appointed special economic analyst of Xinhua News Agency.
In September, research institutions in School of Public Policy and Management (SPPM) were adjusted, and Center for China Studies (CCS) was listed as one of the six permanent research institutions of SPPM.
In October, Hu Angang was appointed member of Expert Committee for “11th Five-Year” Plan of National Development and Reform Commission.
In April, Center for China Studies (CCS) won the title of “Advanced Collective of Tsinghua University”.
In August, Professor Hu Angang was appointed member of National Environmental Consulting Committee and member of Scientific and Technological Committee of National Environmental Protection Administration.
In August, Lecturer Meng Qingguo and others won the first prize of Outstanding Teaching Achievements of Tsinghua University.
In September, Professor Hu Angang and Lecturer Xiong Yizhi won the first prize of the Third National Educational Scientific e ResearchAchievement Award.
In December, Professor Hu Angang won the third prize of the Fourth Chinese University Humanities and Social Science Research Achievement Award on comprehensive /interdisciplinary research.

In March, Huang Xiaohong, MPA graduate student supervised by Professor Hu Angang, won the award of Excellent Thesis of the 2nd National Master of Public Administration .
In March, Professor Hu Angang attended the Symposium for Experts and Scholars hosted by Liu Qi, member of political bureau of the CPC Central Committee and secretary of Beijing Municipal Committee, discussing several major issues concerning economic and social development of the capital in the next five years.
In March, Professor Hu Angang was hired as visiting scholar of Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies, Waseda University in Japan, and visited Waseda University for research.

In September, Chinese Political and Economic History (1949-1976), one of the most significant books of Professor Hu Angang, was published by Tsinghua University Press.

In April, Professor Hu Angang was appointed member of expert group for compilation of the Medium and Long Term Planning Outline (2009-2020) of National Talent Team Construction.
In April, Professor Hu Angang was appointed member of expert Consultant Team of National Medium and Long Term Education Reform and Development Program.
In June, Professor Hu Angang was appointed expert of National Post-disaster Reconstruction Planning Group for Wenchuan Earthquake. He went to affected areas including Sichuan, Gansu and Shaanxi for investigation, and attended Post-disaster Reconstruction Planning Group Consultation Seminar held by National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) many times.
In July, with the invitation from Chinese People Institute of Foreign Affairs, Professor Hu Angang had high-end exchanges with Blair, former British prime minister onglobal climate changing.

In May, Report on Contemporary China has released 1000 issues (including regular issue, particular issue, supplementary issue, special issue and overseas China studies) since its establishment in 1998.
In August, Associate Professor Wang Yahua was invited by Professor Ostrom from Indiana University in US, and went to US for one-year academic visit.
In August, Wang Lei, doctoral candidate supervised by Professor Hu Angang, won the award of Beijing Excellent Doctoral Dissertation.

In February, “12th Five-Year” Plan Strategy Research edited by Zhang Ping was officially published by People’s Publishing House,compiled by National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC). and . In the book, two major research achievements concerning the earlier-stage of “12th Five-Year” Plan undertaken by Center for China Studies (CCS) and China Institute for Development Planning, Tsinghua University (CIDP), were selected. Titles of the two research projects are respectively National “12th Five-Year” Plan: Background, Idea and Goal, and Research on Deepening the Reform of Administrative Management System during “12th Five-Year” Period.
In March, Professor Hu Angang and Associate Professor Wang Yahua were invited to the Expert Committee Meeting of China Water Resources Magazine and High-level Seminar on Accelerating Water Conservancy Reform Development. In the meeting, Professor Hu Angang made a keynote speech with the theme of China “12th Five-Year” Plan and Green Development, and Associate Professor Wang Yahua submitted an article as the written statement for the meeting titling Conception on China’s National Conditions and Water Conservancy Modernization .
In June, the research finding of 2010 Water Conservancy Major Research Project (No. 1 project) undertaken by the research group of Center for China Studies (CCS) was verified for acceptance,which was titled “Research on Stage of Water Conservancy—Division on Stage of Water Conservancy, Judgment and Strategic Decision.In June, the Publishing Ceremony of Professor Hu Angang’s English monograph: “China in 2020: A New Type of Superpower” was held at The Brookings Institution, US.
In August, Professor Hu Angang attended the Founding Ceremony of Ministry of Education—Tsinghua University “Education Strategic Decision and National Planning Research Center”As the director of its Academic Committee, Prof. Hu delivered an academic report titling “Views on China’s Human Resource Changes based on China 2010 (the Sixth) Population Census”.
On the morning of November 8, He Guoqiang, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC and secretary of Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the CPC, visited School of Public Policy and Management during the inspection tour at Tsinghua University. He listened to the work report from Center for China Studies and Research Center for Anti-corruption and Governance, and had a friendly exchange with teachers and students.

In December, China Institute for Rural Studies, Tsinghua University (CIRS) was officially established, Professor Meng Qingguo served as the vice president, and Professor Hu Angang was hired as the associate director of CIRS Academic Committee.
On January 12, the Launching Ceremony of Institute for Contemporary China Studies, Tsinghua University (ICCS) and Symposium of “National Conditions Research and Contemporary China Studies” were held in Gongzi Ting, Tsinghua University. Institute for Contemporary China Studies, Tsinghua University was officially established, and Professor Hu Angang served as the first Dean.
In June, “New Exploration of Contemporary China Education in Tsinghua University-- Serial Course Construction for Socialist Theory and Practice (participants: Hu Angang, Wang Yahua, Zhou Shaojie, Xiong Yizhi)won the first prize of Teaching Achievement Award in Tsinghua Universitywhich was submitted by Institute for Contemporary China Studies. .
In September, Professor Hu Angang delivered a lecture to bureau-level leaders from Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and provincial secretaries of Municipal Commission for Discipline Inspection.In September, Professor Hu Angang made a keynote report of “National Strategy and the Competitiveness of State-Owned Enterprise” for the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee.
In October, Report on Contemporary China (1998-2011) (14 volumes, 27 brochures) was published jointly by Party Building Books Publishing House and Social Sciences Academic Press (SSAP).
On November 8, Professor Hu Angang attended the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China as the party representative.
In December, Professor Hu Angang delivered a lecture of “A Comprehensive Analysis of the ‘Five-in-One’ Overall Layout for Socialism with Chinese Characteristics”” for the General Office of the State Council.
In April, the special elective class of “China’s National Conditions and China’s Road” for bureau-level cadres from central and national organ was held, and Professor Hu Angang served as the responsible professor for the class.
On April 18, Guangming Daily’s special report on Professor Hu Angang: “Hu Angang: Dreams of Mountains and Rivers” was published in the 13th edition (Figure edition) with full-page.
In April, Professor Meng Qingguo was appointed the adjunct professor of China Executive Leadership Academy, Yan’an.
In June, the 20th Anniversary Commemoration for the Publishing of A Study of China State Capacity co-authored by Professor Hu Angang and Professor Wang Shaoguang was held in Peking University. Gan Yang, Fang Ning, Qiang Shigong and other scholars attended the meeting.
In June, Professor Hu Angang attended “Post-disaster Reconstruction and Transformation : Tsinghua University 8th Public Administration High-level Forum” in Wenchuan, and made a keynote speech titling “China’s Disaster Reconstruction: Take Wenchuan as an Example”. The forum was co-hosted by School of Public Policy and Management of Tsinghua University, the CPC Wenchuan County Committee and Wenchuan People’s Government.
In July, Dr Yan Yilong and Dr Gao Yuning was formally appointed assistant professor of School of Public Policy and Management and joined the Institute for Contemporary China Studies.
In August, the Publishing Seminar of “China’s System” Book Series edited by Professor Hu Angang was successfully held. The seminar was organized by China Renmin University Press (CRUP).
In December, Professor Hu Angang attended the seminar of “World Dialogue on Chinese Dream” in Shanghai and made a speech.
In January, Professor Hu Angang was awarded as one of “2013 Top Ten Thinkers ” by People’s Tribune.
In January, Center for Think Tank Studies (CTTS) of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS) released Chinese Think Tanks Report, in which the influence ranking was conducted for the first time. According to the report, Institute for Contemporary China Studies ranked five in the research field of political construction as well as urbanization research.
In March, Dr. Wei Xing, former office director of Institute for Contemporary China Studies and assistant professor, was transferred to work at the General Office of the CPC Central Committee.
In June, Professor Hu Angang won the title of Beijing University Outstanding Communist Party Member.
In July, Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China, PRC Chairman and the Central Military Commission Chairman, held Economic Situation Expert Symposium in Zhongnanhai to listen to experts’ and scholars’ opinions and suggestions on current economic situation and economic work. At the meeting, Professor Hu Angangmade a speech on strengthening economic governance. as one of the invited experts.
In September, the Academic Seminar of National Governance Modernization and the Publishing Conference of Modernization of China's Governance (which is the new book of Professor Hu Angang’s team) were held in Renmin University of China.
In December, Luo Hang, doctoral candidate supervised by Professor Meng Qingguo, won the 2014 Graduate Special Scholarship of Tsinghua University.
In January, 2014 Chinese Think Tank Influence Report jointly released by Horizon International Development Instituteaffiliated to Horizon Research Consulting Group and National Key News Website China.org.cn affiliated to Information Office of the State Council, showed that Institute for Contemporary China Studies (ICCS) ranked eleventh for Think Tank comprehensive influence, third for University Think Tank comprehensive influence and third for government influence.
In February, Nguyen Quang Thuan, vice president of Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences (VASS) and VASS delegation visited Institute for Contemporary China Studies (ICCS) and had a talk with ICCS teachers and students.
In April, Li Keqiang, Standing Committee Member of the Political Bureau of CPC and Premier of State Council, hosted a symposium to listen to experts’ and enterprise principals’ opinions and suggestions on current economic situation and economic work. Professor Hu Angang was invited to attend the meeting in which he made a speech titling “An Upgraded Version of Macroeconomic Control Target is needed for the New Normal”.
In June, Report on Contemporary China, 16th Volume was published by Party Building Books Publishing House.
In August, the thesis of Huang Gaoping, MPA student supervised by Professor Hu Angang, was awarded the 6th National Excellent MPA Thesis (ranking first). The dissertation is titled “Analysis on Tobacco Control Policy in Beijing (1996-2012)”.
In November, “National ToSp Think Tank Construction Experiential Working Programme” was examined and approved in the 18th Meeting of CPC Central Deepening Reform Leading Group, and Institute for Contemporary China Studies, Tsinghua University (ICCS) was selected into the first batch of 25 organizations as one experiential unit for the national top think-tanks.
In the mid of November, Chinese Evaluation Center for Humanities and Social Sciences, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) released Global Think Tank Evaluation Report 2015 and published the Global Think Tank Top-100 list. In the list, Institute for Contemporary China Studies ranked seventh among domestic think tanks and first among university think tanks.
In December, Report on Contemporary China (1998-2011) won the second prize of 7th Institute of Higher Education Scientific Research Outstanding Achievement Award on Interdisciplinary.
In January, the first Plenary Session of the 2nd Council of Institute for Contemporary China Studies was held in Gongzi Ting, Tsinghua University.
In January, Institute for Contemporary China Studies ranked 50th in the list of “Best University Affiliated Think Tank ” of 2015 Global Think Tank Index released by University of Pennsylvania, US.
In February, Professor Hu Angang attended the Expert Forum hosted by Liu Yandong concerning the drafting of the “Healthy China” Documentand made a speech.
In March, Professor Hu Angang had a talk with Chui Sai On, the Chief Executive of Macau Special Administrative Region, and exchanged opinions on the first Five-year Development Plan for Macao.
In March, Professor Hu Angang was invited by RIIT,Japan and visited Japan. Prof. Hu met the deliberator of the cabinet office, secretary of the prime minister and vice president of the Bank of Japan,etc. Besides, Prof. Hu released a keynote speech of “China’s 13th Five-Year Plan: Influence on China and the World” to some officers from RIIT and was interviewed by mainstream media in Japan. He also interpreted China’s “13th Five-Year” Plan to more than 70 Japanese media journalists at the National Press Club and recommended the Japanese version of his new book: China: Determine the Victory of a Century Goal .
In April, Professor Hu Angang hosted the teaching work for the training class of National Governance and “13th Five-Year” Plan for bureau-level cadres from Central and State Organ and delivered two lectures in the class.
In May, Professor Hu Angang attended the National Philosophy and Social Science Symposium presided by General Secretary Xi Jinping.
In May, Professor Hu Angang was invited to US for view exchanges over China’s “13th Five-Year” Plan and other problems with delegates from The Brookings Institution and other think tanks. During the visit, Prof. Hu also introduced China’s “13th Five-Year” Plan to delegates from US Department of State and other US government departments and exchanges opinions with them.
In July, Professor Hu Angang attended the Expert Symposium concerning Economic Situations presided by General Secretary Xi Jinping, and made a speech titling “Steady Growth and Structural Adjustment: Focusing on 165 Major Projects in 13th Five-Year Plan”.
In August, Professor Hu Angang attended National Health Conference in which Xi Jinping, Li Keqiang and Liu Yandong delivered speeches. Prof. Hu participated in panel discussion and submitted two papers to the Conference Secretariat titling, namely “Promoting a Well-off Society with the Health of the Whole People”, and “General Policies of Building a Healthy China”.
In December, Professor Hu Angang's “Research on the Basic Idea of the 13th Five-Year Plan” won the second prize of the 14th Beijing philosophy and Social Sciences: Excellent Achievement Award of Management Research Report.
In January, Council of Institute for Contemporary China Studies held 2017 Plenary Session. Qiu Yong, President of Tsinghua University and Council Director of Institute for Contemporary China Studies, and Deng Wei, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Tsinghua University and Council Deputy Director of Institute for Contemporary China Studies attended the session.
From February to August, Professor Hu Angang attended significant meetings concerning the 19th CPC National Congress convened by Beijing Municipal Party Committee three times as the representative of the 18th CPC National Congress, and provided specialized manuscripts or written opinions and suggestions.
In February, Center for Think Tank Studies (CTTS) of Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS) released the 2016 Chinese Think Tanks Report, in which Institute for Contemporary China Studies ranked 15th for comprehensive influence, 18th for decision-making influence, 10th for academic influenceand 13th for social influence.The rank of professional influence in social development, meanwhile, rose from 6th in 2015 to 3rd in 2016.In April, the thesis titled “Supply Side Structural Reform- Adapting to and Leading China’s Economic New Normal” by Hu Angang, Zhou Shaojie and others was published byJournal of Tsinghua University -Philosophy and Social Sciences, 2016-1, and won the 4th “Parkson--Journal of Tsinghua University” Outstanding Paper Award.
In April, Dr Tang Xiao was awarded as one of 2017 Outstanding Post Doctors of Tsinghua University (Top Ten), and he also won 2017 National Outstanding Postdoctoral Academic Achievement Award (National Postdoctoral Management Committee Office).
In August, Associate Professor Gao Yuning won the first prize in the 10th Beijing University Young Teacher Basic Teaching Skills Competition-- Literature and History:Group A and other three awards.
In September, Professor Hu Angang's “Research on the Basic Idea of the 13th Five-Year Plan” won the second prize of the 14th Beijing philosophy and Social Sciences: Excellent Achievement Award of Management Research Report.
In November, Professor Hu Angang was invited to attend “2017 Northeast Asia Cooperation Forum” during his visit to South Korea, and had thorough exchanges with several key figures, including Ban Ki-moon, former UN Secretary General, the speaker of National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, Deputy Speaker of Duma, Russia and US ambassador to South Korea. During the visit, Professor Hu Angang was also interviewed by Korea Joongang Daily, exerting broad influence on society of South Korea.
In December, Professor Guo Yong attended the Seminar of “Building Stronger Political Parties, Challenges and Prospects” during the of High-Level Meeting of the CPC in Dialogue with World Political Parties.
