Cheng Wenhao graduated from the Department of International Politics, Peking University in 1996 and received his Ph.D. in politics from Yale University in 2002. He was a visiting scholar at Harvard Kennedy School in the spring semester of 2003. At the end of 2000, he co-founded the Clean Government Research Studio of the School of Public Policy and Management of Tsinghua University (now the Research Center for Anti-corruption and Governance). He is now a professor of the School of Public Policy and Management of Tsinghua University, Director of the Research Center for Anti-corruption and Governance. He served as the Executive Director of the Institute of China Supervision and a member of the Supervision Committee of the Beijing Olympic Games.

He published theoretical monograph Corruption Prevention (Tsinghua University Press, 2011). He has published multiple academic papers on famous Chinese and foreign journals such as Social Sciences in China and China Review.
